Trainer Tip: Avoid the afternoon crash
We all know the feeling. 2 p.m. rolls around and we just want to crawl under the desk or go out to the car and sleep. Here are three tips that can help you avoid the afternoon crash and have energy to finish off the day.
Make sure to get fueled before starting your day. Try a protein shake or some oatmeal with blueberries or walnuts. Eating a breakfast that includes some protein and good carbs, such as the ones found in walnuts, will help prevent you from overeating at lunch.
Stay hydrated during the day. Sometimes when you think you are hungry, your body really wants water. Drinking water will also make you feel full and can stop you from heading to the vending machine. Drink about an ounce of water for every two pounds of your body weight each day.
Avoid the carbs at lunch
A heavy lunch full of empty carbs will make you tired. Try a spinach salad with grilled chicken, dried cranberries, blueberries, garbanzo beans, tomato, and hardboiled egg, or any combination that suits you. Just make sure to avoid the bad carbs and get protein.
